As well as services four times a week and Bubble Church once a month, Charlton frequently opens its doors to the wider community by putting on a wide range of social and cultural events. These include the Christmas Fair, an annual Community Open Day, strawberry teas, numerous concerts, quizzes, American suppers and Bingo. It is a well-loved venue for weddings and baptisms.
Local schools use the church for special services: in particular, Charlton has a strong and developing relationship with Charlton Church of England Primary School. In addition, Deal Music and Arts utilises the building for large-scale educational events, and The Big Reveal packs the church with a whole day of singing and musical experience for primary school children.
The church is easily transformed into a large space for tables and is available to hire for events. The lovely Victorian building has an excellent acoustic and is spacious enough to accommodate an orchestra and chorus, as well as the sizeable audience that supports the Dover Prom. There is a fine, 1870 two-manual Bevington organ and an excellent grand piano.
The Church Hall nextdoor is available to hire separately: it has plenty of tables and chairs, a convenient fitted kitchen and a stage. There are Ladies, Gents and Disabled toilets with a baby-changing facility. A portable ramp gives access to wheelchair users.
Parking is available on St Alphege Road and also in the Morrisons car park nearby.
